A tragic gas explosion on Saturday, July 6, along Ebute Road in the Ibafo area of Ogun State has resulted in the deaths of a 40-year-old woman named Rafiat Sheriff and her seven-year-old daughter, Asisat.
Residents reported that the woman had instructed her daughter to light the gas burner for their evening meal, but the cylinder unexpectedly burst into flames. The fire quickly engulfed their apartment, leading to the fatalities of both mother and daughter.
Confirming the incident, Omolola Odutola, spokesperson for the police command, stated that two other individuals are currently hospitalized and fighting for their lives.
Omolola said: “The incident occurred last night when the mother told her seven-year-old daughter to cook. The girl was attempting to light up the gas cylinder when the entire house went up in flames. The mother and the child lost their lives in the explosion. Two other girls, including one of the children of the deceased, are currently receiving treatment in the hospital.”
