A 13-year-old schoolgirl appeared at the Old Bailey in London, England, today, where she pleaded not guilty to charges related to an alleged attack on her mother. The incident occurred on March 2 in Wimbledon, south-west London.
At the time of the alleged offense, the girl was 12 years old. She has denied attempting to kill her 47-year-old mother and also refuted an alternative charge of wounding with intent. The court hearing on Wednesday was marked by the girl’s emotional distress; Judge Judy Khan KC allowed her time to calm down before she entered her pleas.
The young defendant, who is among the youngest female defendants to appear at the Old Bailey, will face a one-week trial at the same court starting September 9. Due to legal reasons, her identity remains confidential.
Currently, she is remanded in local authority accommodation.
