Inspector Aminu Yahaya Bidda, a police officer stationed at Tudun Wada Police Station in Kaduna, has been arrested following his violent encounter with a Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company (KAEDCO) employee. The confrontation, captured in a viral video, shows Bidda wielding a knife and attempting to stab KAEDCO officials during a routine inspection.
The incident occurred at Bidda’s residence on Rimaye Road, Hayin Danmani, where KAEDCO staff were inspecting his prepaid meter. The investigation revealed that Bidda had only purchased electricity twice this year. Eyewitnesses reported that Bidda, visibly enraged, made multiple attempts to stab the electricity worker, who narrowly avoided injury. A passerby who intervened sustained a leg injury.
In response, KAEDCO submitted a formal petition to the state Police Command, requesting Bidda’s arrest, investigation, and prosecution for assault, attempted murder, harassment, and intimidation. KAEDCO also urged that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and emphasized the need for police protection for its staff to ensure they can perform their duties without interference.
Abdulazeez Abdullahi, Head of Corporate Communications at KAEDCO, condemned the officer’s actions as both unlawful and a threat to the state’s fragile peace. Abdullahi noted that Bidda’s behavior was a clear violation of legal and police conduct standards and pledged to seek appropriate administrative and legal actions.
