Doctors in India were astonished when they discovered an assortment of foreign objects, including keys, nail clippers, and even a knife, inside the stomach of a young man reportedly in his early twenties.
The unsettling discovery came to light after the patient’s mother noticed her wardrobe keys were missing, according to Viral Press. When she inquired about the missing keys, her son jokingly mentioned that he had swallowed them. Initially dismissing this as a jest, she later learned that he was, in fact, telling the truth.
Upon transporting her son to a hospital in Motihari, Bihar, an ultrasound revealed the presence of the swallowed keys, along with several other inedible objects.
During the subsequent operation, Dr. Kumar and his team successfully extracted not only the keys but also nail clippers and a folding knife.
Despite the complexity of the surgery, the patient is reported to be recovering well. His mother has attributed the bizarre incident to her son’s addiction to social media and excessive screen time, suggesting that these factors negatively impacted his mental health.
Dr. Kumar has supported this view, asserting that the young man’s actions were likely influenced by his overuse of smartphones.
The official diagnosis remains unclear, but the young man’s behavior could potentially be indicative of pica, a mental health condition characterized by a compulsive urge to ingest non-food items.
