The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a 55-year-old man, Hassan Wasiu, for allegedly sexually abusing his neighbor’s 13-year-old daughter.
According to Punch, Wasiu is accused of committing the crime on August 26, 2024, at his apartment on Falowo Street, Makun, in the Sagamu area.
Police spokesperson Omolola Odutola confirmed the arrest on Tuesday, September 3. She stated that the survivor’s grandfather, Bimbo Ojo, reported the incident to the Sagamu Police Division.
Ojo discovered his granddaughter was bleeding from her vagina shortly after the assault.
During questioning, the survivor said Wasiu lured her into his room and assaulted her.
After trying unsuccessfully to stop the bleeding, the survivor was taken to Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital for medical care.
Despite Wasiu’s denial of any sexual contact with the survivor, Odutola said he is in custody while the investigation continues.
“The grandfather reported the incident on September 2, 2024. It is alleged that the suspect lured the minor to his room on August 26, 2024, with the intention of sexual assault, causing the minor to bleed profusely,” she said.
“Our team quickly acted and arrested the suspect. Although he denies the allegations, the investigation is ongoing, and the case will soon be transferred to the state Criminal Investigation Department.”
