Nigerian Police Arrest Five Kidnap Suspects from Kano and Sokoto Targeting University Students in Imo State

Five suspects linked to a series of kidnappings in Obinze, Avu, and Ihiagwa, Imo State, have been arrested by the police. The kidnapped victim has been rescued.

The suspects, identified as Umaru Usman (40), Tukur Yau (25), Musbau Sabo (18), Abdul Ibrahim (30), and Jubrin Idris (35), were apprehended on August 21, 2024, in Avu. They are from various states in northern Nigeria.

According to the Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the arrests are part of ongoing police efforts to combat crime in Imo State.

In a separate incident on the same day, Nwauba Alex, a 25-year-old from Ebonyi State, was arrested for attempted robbery near Aladinma Primary School, Owerri. He was found with a locally made pistol, ammunition, and a torchlight.

The police reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring public safety and security across the country.

Meanwhile, the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO), has issued a security alert following recent kidnappings near its main gate.

The university management expressed concern over the spate of incidents along the Obinze-Ihiagwa Road, which typically occur during early morning and late evening hours.
