Couple Drowns in Hawaii, Leaving Toddler Orphaned

A young couple from Washington state tragically drowned while on vacation in Maui, Hawaii, leaving their 18-month-old son orphaned.

Ilya and Sophia Tsaruk, both 25, were believed to be swimming or snorkeling at the Ahihi-Kinau Natural Area Reserve when they encountered difficulties in the water on Saturday, September 14th.

Rescue crews responded to reports of swimmers in distress and found the 26-year-old woman unresponsive in the water, approximately 100 to 150 yards offshore. Despite CPR efforts, both victims were pronounced dead at the scene.

Sophia was pregnant with a baby girl at the time of her death, according to a GoFundMe campaign established by a family friend.

The couple’s 18-month-old son, Logan, was staying with relatives during the trip and is now left orphaned.
