An Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan, Nigeria, on Thursday ordered the remand of two men, Olayinka Akinware (35) and Tunji Adesina (29), for allegedly attacking police officers with four dogs to prevent the arrest of a suspect.
Chief Magistrate M. Mudashiru, who did not take the suspects’ plea due to lack of jurisdiction, remanded them at Abolongo Correctional Facility in Oyo pending legal advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP). The case was adjourned until December 18 for mention.
According to the prosecution, Akinware and Adesina were charged with conspiracy and obstruction of arrest. On September 12, they allegedly attacked police officers, including DSP Festus Fagbohun and ASP Ojo Tolulope, with bamboo branches and released four dogs, including a Pitbull and a Rottweiler, on them.
The police were attempting to arrest Korede Adeoye, a resident in their house, at No. 15, Oluwo area, Ibadan. The incident led to charges under Sections 332 and 516 of the Criminal Code Laws of Oyo State, 2000.
The suspects will remain in custody until the court receives further guidance from the DPP.
