Arizona Inmate Crawls Past Guard with Alleged Plan to Assault Female Inmate

A male inmate at a Maricopa County jail in Arizona, USA, was caught on surveillance cameras sneaking past a security guard into the female section of the facility, reportedly intending to sexually assault a female inmate.

The incident, which took place in April, involved Justin Avery, who was already facing charges for allegedly sexually assaulting five women near Arizona State University’s Tempe campus.

According to court documents obtained by ABC15, Avery was seen crawling past a security guard at 4 AM in the intake area, described as moving “like a spider.”

He allegedly admitted to being attracted to a female inmate and planning to assault her. Once in the women’s section, he dropped his pants behind a sleeping inmate. His actions were interrupted when another female inmate noticed him and screamed for help, prompting a security officer to intervene.

As a result, Avery has been charged with an additional count of sexual assault and is set to appear in court next week.

The incident has prompted scrutiny of the jail’s security measures and the oversight of inmates in custody.
