A 17-year-old woman, Mrs. Nguemo Ikyowe, was arrested in Benue State for the murder of her 3-year-old stepson, Vanen Ikyowe.
The suspect was apprehended by operatives of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) on September 12, 2024, in Ginde village, Guma Local Government Area.
According to the Benue NSCDC State Commandant, Mrs. Larai Bitrus, the arrest followed a distress call reporting the murder and dumping of the child’s body in a nearby river. Upon investigation, the suspect confessed to the crime.
The NSCDC officers recovered the child’s body and handed it over to a local mortuary.
The suspect, who is the second wife of the victim’s father, claimed she was possessed by a spirit during the incident.
