Haitian Transitional Council President Goes Viral for Drinking from a Large Jug at UNGA

Haiti’s transitional leader, Edgar Leblanc Fils, drew significant attention during his speech at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) due to an unexpected incident.

While addressing the assembly, Fils took an unconventional approach to quench his thirst by reaching for a large pitcher of water. Unfortunately, his attempt backfired, resulting in water spilling on his suit as he seemingly missed his mouth before hastily returning the pitcher to the podium.

The incident ignited discussions online, with social media users seizing the moment to poke fun. Speculations arose regarding whether it was a misstep by UN staff for not providing a glass, while others humorously questioned the incident’s legitimacy.

Comments ranged from disbelief—“No way this is real? Is this legit?”—to sympathetic remarks about the absence of a simple drinking glass.

Fils’s ascent to leadership follows the ousting of former Prime Minister Ariel Henry by armed gangs earlier this year.

As President of the Presidential Council of the Transition of the Republic of Haiti, Fils is tasked with forming a new government amid significant challenges, including an ongoing migration crisis as many Haitians seek entry into the United States.
