Nigeria Customs Intercepts Illicit Drugs Worth Over N682 Million in Lagos

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) Tin Can Island Port Command has intercepted three containers loaded with illicit drugs valued at over N682 million.

Customs Area Controller Dera Nnadi announced the seizure during a stakeholder engagement in Lagos. He attributed the success to actionable intelligence and collaboration with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).

The seized containers contained a total of 684 packets of cannabis Indica, weighing 341.025 kg. One container, MSMU 518030/2, was declared to contain used vehicles but was found to hold 77 packets of cannabis Indica. Another container, MSMU 602957/0, had no declared contents and contained 532 packets of cannabis Indica. A third container, FSCU 927461/3, also contained 75 packets of cannabis Indica.

Nnadi emphasized the importance of interagency collaboration in addressing the issue of illegal drug importation. He stated that the NCS would continue to deploy resources and strategies to prevent the importation of illicit and dangerous substances.

The NDLEA is currently conducting further investigations into the interdiction, including arrests and prosecutions. The operation highlights the commitment of the NCS and NDLEA to safeguarding Nigerian society from the dangers of illicit drugs.
