The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a 70-year-old man, Afolabi Michael, on allegations of defiling an 11-year-old girl.
The suspect was apprehended following a complaint filed by the victim’s mother.
Despite denying sexual intercourse, Michael admitted to engaging in “deep romancing” with the girl. In his confessional statement, he claimed to have been suffering from erectile dysfunction for an extended period.
Lagos State Police Spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the incident and stated that the case was transferred to the Gender Unit for investigation on September 27, 2024.
The complainant alleged that the suspect had defiled her daughter multiple times during school vacations.
Michael was arraigned on October 10, 2024, and remanded in custody.
The PPRO stated: “She stated further that the suspect had sexual intercourse with the survivor multiple times. The suspect was cautioned in English Language where he confessed that he romanced the survivor, though he denied having sexual intercourse with her claiming that he has been suffering from weak erection for many years now.
“However, the suspect has been arraigned in court for defilement on October 10, 2024 and has been remanded.”
In another related case, a 15-year-old girl reported being defiled by Philip Agaku. The suspect is accused of abusing the victim since she was 8 years old.
