A former Premier League footballer has been arrested on suspicion of raping a woman at a luxury London hotel. The 24-year-old was detained by police at the Corinthia Hotel in Westminster on October 9.
The international footballer, whose identity remains undisclosed due to legal reasons, was bailed until mid-December pending further investigations.
The alleged victim, a woman in her 20s, reported the attack to the hotel’s front desk early on Wednesday morning. She claimed to have met the footballer at a bar and agreed to return to his hotel room.
The woman alleges that she was then attacked and raped by the footballer. The suspect was arrested at the hotel and taken to Charing Cross police station for questioning.
Police obtained a DNA swab, mugshot, and fingerprints from the suspect. Forensic experts are examining the hotel room, and CCTV footage is being analyzed. The footballer denies the allegations.
A source told The Sun that the woman was visibly distressed when she reported the incident to the hotel staff. Police were called, and officers arrested the footballer at the hotel.
The footballer, who is known to have played for several English clubs and represented his country, is a recognizable figure in the Premier League.
A Metropolitan Police spokesperson confirmed the arrest and ongoing investigation. The woman is being supported by specially trained officers.
