Court Orders VeryDarkMan to Pay ₦500 Million for Defaming Femi Falana and His Son, Falz

Following an order from the Lagos State High Court requiring social media critic Martin Otse, widely known as VeryDarkMan, to delete a defamatory video about lawyer Femi Falana and to cease all related posts, the court has also mandated that he pay ₦500 million in damages to both Femi Falana (SAN) and his son, rapper Folarin Falana, commonly known as Falz.

Presided over by Justice M. O. Idowu, the court instructed Otse to remove defamatory statements and videos regarding the Falanas. This ruling was a response to a series of posts made by Otse on 24th September 2024, in which he associated the Falanas with crossdresser Bobrisky.

Justice Idowu asserted that these comments were “defamatory and injurious” to the public reputations of Falana and his son.

According to the applicants, the court noted, “the defendant knew these statements were false and untrue but proceeded to publish them to injure their reputation.”
