An angry mob in Akure, Ondo State, descended on a suspected car thief on Monday, October 21, 2024. The incident occurred at 8:35 am at Quarter Guard Junction.
The suspect, identified as Bashir, reportedly jumped into a woman’s Nissan Sunny car and attempted to strangle her while struggling for control of the steering wheel. Her screams alerted passers-by who intervened and apprehended the suspect.
The mob then beat the suspect severely, nearly to death. Fortunately, officers of the Amotekun Corps arrived at the scene and rescued the suspect from the irate crowd.
The victim recounted her traumatic experience, saying, “I was in shock this morning while taking my boy to school. I was planning to get fuel for the car when I saw the suspect praying by the roadside. Suddenly, he flung open the door, pressed my throat, and fought for control of the steering wheel.”
