The Defence Headquarters has confirmed the detention of a naval personnel, identified as A. Akila, for the alleged killing of a fellow military colleague at a Forward Operating Base in Zamfara State.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Friday, October 25, 2024.
According to Major General Buba Edward, Director of Defence Media Operations, Akila opened fire on his colleague under unclear circumstances.
Following the incident, Akila was promptly disarmed and detained. The Defence Headquarters has initiated an investigation into the matter and plans to refer the case to a standing court-martial.
While the name of the deceased has not yet been publicly released, the Defence Headquarters is currently notifying the family. Further details will be provided as the investigation progresses.
