Friends of a Nigerian woman, Cynthia Okafor, have been thrown into mourning after she died within a year of getting married and losing her husband.
It was gathered that she got married in January 2024, lost her husband four months later, gave birth to a baby girl in October, and passed away on Sunday, November 3.
A friend, Chidimma Okolomike, confirmed her death in a Facebook post on Monday, November 4.
“Nwanne mmadu. 2024 was really cruel to u. 2024 gave u joy and happiness only to snatch it back from you,” she wrote.
“In January, I came to Enugwu-Ukwu for ur traditional marriage, I was so happy that my baby was off the market.
“In April, I was in NYSC camp when I heard u lost ur husband of just four months. I called but u weren’t picking my calls, I sent a message which u later replied after some weeks.
“I asked u to stay strong and u promised u will be fine. Forward to October 22nd, I got news that u delivered a beautiful baby girl, I was so happy at least u would have a reason to stay alive. Only to get the news yesterday that u are no more.
“Death, u have no shame, u took away a sister Funai gave to me. A girl with a good and genuine heart, a girl that shows everyone around her love. You even gave me a beautiful name (Ifenkili Ndi Anambra ba anyi).
“Cynthia who did u and ur husband leave ur beautiful daughter of barely 2 weeks for? God, how can u make an innocent baby an orphan at this age?
“Cynthia ur death is really hitting me so hard here, I can’t even close my eyes. Life was really so cruel to you. Rest on my dear sister. RIP Okafor Cynthia.
Another friend, AmbTitus Nwibo, wrote: “Your death is a shock. Our compound then in school was all fun with you around. Can’t imagine the horrible incidents you faced before your death. From getting married to losing your husband, giving birth, and then losing your own life all in the space of one year. Death, why? Where are you leaving the innocent child? God, what do we call this kind of pain? Rest on beloved, you gave your best but death never could allow you. Hard to say but keep resting where death and pain have no power.”
