Herdsmen Kill Traditional Chief in Ogun State

A 49-year-old traditional chief, Ogunleye Olaegbe, has been brutally murdered by suspected herdsmen in Oke-Oha Village, Imeko Afon Local Government Area of Ogun State.

The incident occurred on Wednesday when the Baale of Oke-Oha was attacked while working on his farm. His lifeless body was later discovered in a nearby bush, bearing multiple gunshot wounds.

Residents of the community expressed deep concern over the escalating violence in the area, attributing it to frequent attacks by herdsmen. They described the killing as a part of an alarming pattern of violence.

Confirming the incident, the Ogun State Police Command spokesperson, SP Omolola Odutola, stated that the traditional chief was attacked by unidentified gunmen, suspected to be herdsmen. She added that the victim was shot in the chest and dragged into a nearby bush.

Odutola added: “A community member alerted the Imeko Police Division about the incident. Ogunleye Olaegbe, aged 49, the Baale of C.A.C. Oke-Oha Village, was attacked by unidentified gunmen, suspected to be herdsmen while working on his farm.

“Upon receiving the report, policemen and other security personnel proceeded to the crime scene. On arrival, it was discovered that during the attack, he had been dragged from his farm into a nearby bush, where he was shot in the chest, resulting in his death.

She noted that some photographs were taken, and the corpse was evacuated to the Ayetoro General Hospital mortuary for an autopsy.

“A preliminary investigation has commenced, and efforts are in top gear to apprehend the perpetrators. The area is under close surveillance to prevent any breakdown of law and order.”
