Suspected bandits ambushed a vehicle carrying Jummai Kefas, mother of Taraba State Governor Agbu Kefas, on Thursday morning along Kente Road in Wukari Local Government Area. During the attack, the governor’s sister, Atsi Kefas, sustained a gunshot wound.
The Chairperson of Wukari LGA, Dauda Agbu, confirmed the incident on Friday, December 6, describing it as “deeply troubling.”
He assured the public that no lives were lost, stating, “Miss Atsi Kefas sustained a gunshot wound. She was initially treated at the Federal Teaching Hospital in Wukari, where her condition was stabilised before being airlifted to Abuja for further medical attention.” Agbu called for calm and reassured residents that security agencies were intensifying efforts to apprehend those responsible.
Taraba State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Usman Abdullahi, also confirmed the attack. He stated that the command had received a report of an armed robbery from the Wukari division but could not verify whether the victims were the governor’s family members.
“Yes, we received a report of a robbery attack on Wukari-Kente Road in the early hours of yesterday, but I can’t confirm whether the governor’s mother and sister were among the victims. The incident is being investigated, and hopefully, the perpetrators of the act will be brought to book,” Abdullahi said.
