Activist Abducted for Criticizing Police Brutality

A Nigerian activist, Comrade Abiodun Olamide Thomas, popularly known as “Horlarmidey Africano,” has been arrested by the Nigeria Police Force, according to SaharaReporters.

Her arrest follows her vocal criticism of alleged police brutality and misconduct.

On November 8, 2024, Abiodun expressed concerns about her safety, accusing Force Public Relations Officer ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi of targeting her. The activist was reportedly abducted from her home in the Somolu area of Lagos on Friday morning, December 13, 2024.

According to SaharaReporters, the police initially arrested her brother and used him to track her down. After her abduction, the police released the brother, who they held as a decoy, and took her to Alade police station. She was later transferred to the State Command in Ikeja.

Abiodun has been a prominent voice in the #EndSARS movement and has consistently condemned police brutality. She believes her arrest is a direct consequence of her activism and her criticism of the police force.

The activist has alleged that ACP Adejobi has been using his position to intimidate and silence critics. She claims that she has received threats and harassment from police officers, including attempts to lure her to isolated locations for abduction.
