A 54-year-old man, Eseni Chima, was charged with murder on Tuesday 17th December at an Abakaliki Magistrates’ Court.
Chima is accused of killing his wife, Ugochukwu, on 4th September at 60 Ogbaga Road, Kpirikpiri, in Abakaliki Local Government Area.
The prosecution, led by Emmanuel Monday, alleged that Chima beat his wife to death with iron bars.
The offence is punishable under Section 319 (1) of the Criminal Code Law, Cap 33, Vol 1, Laws of Ebonyi State, 2009.
Magistrate Chinedu Agama did not take Chima’s plea as the court lacked jurisdiction in the matter. The magistrate directed the police to submit the case file to the Director of Public Prosecutions for legal advice.
The case was adjourned until 31st December for further hearing.
