The Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU) is mourning the loss of three students who died in a road accident on Friday, 20th December.
The victims have been identified as Nifesimi Dada, a 300-level Geology student; Opeyemi Joshua, a 200-level Taxation student; and Ogooluwa Miracle Daniel, a 200-level Mass Communication student.
In a statement by Dr. Wale Balogun, the university’s Corporate Affairs Director, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Ayodeji Agboola expressed deep sadness over the tragedy.
“The university is profoundly saddened by this tragic loss and is collaborating with the appropriate authorities to assist the affected families,” the statement said.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with them during this incredibly difficult time. We can only imagine the immense pain they must be enduring and want them to know that they are not alone in their grief.”
Prof. Agboola also spoke about the heartbreak of losing young lives in such a tragic way. He sent his condolences to the bereaved families and assured the university community of efforts to ensure a safe and supportive environment.
The Ogun State Police Command Spokesperson, SP Omolola Odutola, also confirmed the accident, explaining that the students were in an Opel Safira vehicle when the driver lost control, causing the car to crash into the bushes.
A male passenger, believed to be a student, died at the scene. Two female students, Nifesimi Dada and Miracle Ogooluwa Daniel, died later in hospital. Two other students are currently receiving treatment at the OOU Medical Centre.
