Nine Killed in Violent Clashes Between Farmers and Herders in Jigawa State

At least nine people have lost their lives and four others sustained critical injuries in a violent clash between farmers and herders in Jigawa State, Nigeria.

The incident unfolded across the Miga and Jahun Local Government Areas, marking the latest in a series of deadly confrontations in the region.

The violence erupted after a group of suspected Fulani individuals allegedly stole a significant quantity of hibiscus and other valuable items from a shop in Gululu village within the Miga Local Government Area.

Farmers, pursuing the thieves’ trail, confronted them at a Fulani settlement camp in Yankunama village, located in the Jahun LGA. The situation escalated rapidly when the farmers were met with a barrage of arrows, resulting in casualties on both sides.

DSP Lawan Shisu Adam, the Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed that the violence intensified when locals retaliated by attacking the Fulani community and setting fire to their homes across multiple areas within Miga and Jahun LGAs.

Police personnel from both Miga and Jahun Divisions were immediately dispatched to restore order and control the escalating situation.

The Jigawa State Police Headquarters confirmed the recovery of nine bodies, which were subsequently transported to Jahun and Miga Hospitals. A medical doctor at the hospitals confirmed the deaths of all nine individuals.
