The Ogun State Police Command has arrested Akintoye Waris for allegedly stealing and slaughtering a Savannah he-goat, valued at N200,000, for his child’s naming ceremony.
Confirming the arrest, the police spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, stated that Waris was apprehended on 2nd January 2025, in the Odeda Area of the state, along with his accomplice, Ajayi Yusuf.
According to Odutola, the suspects are said to have raided a local farm to steal the goat, after ensuring that the farm’s owner, known only as Mark, had taken his cattle for grazing on 25th December. Upon his return, Mark realised one of the goats was missing, prompting a search in the surrounding community.
During the search, some villagers reported seeing the suspects with the missing goat on a motorcycle, heading towards Olodo town. Acting on this information, detectives were immediately deployed and the suspects were arrested in the early hours of 2nd January 2025.
“During interrogation, the suspects confessed to the crime, explaining how they stole, transported, and later slaughtered the he-goat on 27th December 2024. They disclosed that the goat was used to prepare food for the naming ceremony of Akintoye Waris’s daughter, which was held at Olodo.
“The suspects are currently in custody and undergoing further investigation at Odeda Divisional Crime branch.”
Odutola reassured the public that once the investigation is completed, the suspects will be prosecuted in court. She also stated that any further updates regarding the case will be provided in due course.
