The Kano State Police Command has arrested a suspected car thief and recovered a stolen Rav-4 vehicle in Ungogo Local Government Area of the state.
In a statement released on Monday 6th January 2025, by the command’s spokesperson, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the suspect, Bala Sani, a 40-year-old resident of Funtua, Katsina State, was apprehended on 4th January 2025.
The ash-coloured Rav-4 vehicle, with registration number YAB 881 JK, Abuja, was discovered abandoned along Kwanar Ungogo during a routine police patrol on 28th December 2024.


Investigations revealed that Sani, in collaboration with an accomplice, stole the vehicle from Zaria, Kaduna State. He confessed to driving the vehicle to Kano with the intention of selling it before abandoning it and fleeing to his hometown upon spotting police officers.
“On 28th December 2024, at approximately 5:00 pm, a team of policemen from the Anti-Car Theft Unit, State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Kano State Police Command, recovered an abandoned Rav-4 Motor Vehicle,” the statement read.
“The vehicle, which was ash in colour and had the registration number YAB 881 JK, Abuja, was found during a round-the-clock visibility patrol along Kwanar Ungogo, Ungogo LGA, Kano State.
“Preliminary investigations led to the arrest of the principal suspect, Bala Sani, a 40-year-old male from Funtua LGA, Katsina State. The suspect was apprehended on 4th January 2025, at his hometown in Kwado Quarters, Katsina LGA, Katsina State.
“During the investigation, the suspect confessed to conspiring with another individual to steal the motor vehicle from Zaria, Kaduna State. He further admitted to driving the vehicle to Kano with the intention of selling it. Upon realizing the presence of police officers near Ungogo Junction, the suspect abandoned the vehicle and escaped to his hometown.
“The recovered motor vehicle is currently in the custody of the Kano State Police Command. The suspect will be charged to court upon completion of the investigation.
