Matheus Cunha labelled a reporter a “liar” as the furious Wolves star responded to “body language” criticism levelled at him by Vitor Pereira.
Cunha has found himself at the centre of controversy following claims about his post-match behaviour during Wolves’ 3-1 loss to Chelsea. According to The Express and Star journalist Liam Keen, the Brazilian was accused of heading straight to the tunnel after the defeat, bypassing the tradition of acknowledging the travelling fans for their support.
Cunha, however, vehemently denied the accusation, labelling Keen a “liar” in a heated response on social media platform X.
“Liar. I went to applaud them, congratulated the referees and the opposing players. Then I went to the tunnel,” he clarified.
“Don’t ever come and ask me to give you an interview again.”

Adding to the tension, Wolves manager Vitor Pereira expressed dissatisfaction with Cunha’s “body language” during his post-match interview after the Chelsea defeat.
“He can be frustrated as he wants to win, but everyone in the dressing room wants to win,” he told reporters.
“I don’t like this body language. I want someone, as a captain, trying to help the team – running, suffering and fighting all together. But this is something I can understand. Next time, I won’t understand.”
When questioned about Cunha leaving the pitch immediately after the final whistle, Pereira added: “This is something I cannot understand. Again, it is the frustration – which I understand – but we need to be together. Together we can fix the problems and stay in the Premier League.
“If we start complaining about this and that, this is not the way. He is committed to Wolves but when you keep hearing about other clubs, then it is human [to be distracted]. (But)The team needs him with good energy and not with frustration. He must slow down and put his mind in the right way.”
With just 16 points from 22 matches, Wolves are perilously close to the relegation zone, sitting outside the bottom three only on goal difference ahead of Ipswich Town. As Wolves battle to retain their Premier League status, the focus will inevitably turn to how Cunha responds when they host Arsenal next Saturday.
