Nigerian singer Portable (Habeeb Okikiola) and nine associates have been granted bail by an Abeokuta magistrate’s court after being arraigned on assault and related charges.
Portable pleaded not guilty to five counts, including conspiracy, assault, obstruction of government officials, possession of weapons, and conduct likely to cause harm.
His associates—Nurudeen Warris (21), Adetola Alashe (25), Samuel Adeleke (28), Oluwaseun Ayenuwa (19), Oluwapelumi Adeosun (20), Gospel Kanu (20), Precious Ohiegebo (19), Ifeoluwa Babatunde (27), and Fatimo Muhammed (26)—were also arraigned on similar charges, including felony, assault, obstruction, and conduct likely to breach the public peace.
Portable surrendered to police in Lagos before being transferred to Ogun State and presented in court. His lawyer told the court he was remorseful and had learned his lesson. Bail was set at N2 million with one surety for Portable, and the trial is set for 5th March.
The charges stem from an incident on 5th February where Portable and his group allegedly attacked three town planners at his bar in Sango, Ogun State. The Ogun State government previously condemned his actions, labelling him a “serial dissident and unrepentant rascal”.
