Umar Faruq, 36, has been sentenced to five years’ imprisonment by Justice Makama of the Bauchi State High Court for human trafficking and the exploitation of a 2-year-old child.
The conviction, secured by the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), Bauchi State Command, stems from violations of the Trafficking in Persons (Prohibition) Enforcement and Administration Act, 2015.
NAPTIP confirmed in a statement on Friday, 28th February 2025, that Faruq was convicted under Section 21 of the Act for exploiting the child, resulting in a five-year sentence and a 2 million naira fine.

The statement read: “NAPTIP Bauchi State Command secures conviction! High Court 15 Bauchi, presided by Justice Makama, sentenced a 36-year-old male to 5 years imprisonment and a N2M fine for obtaining possession of a 2-year-old for exploitation, contrary to Section 21 of the Trafficking in Persons (Prohibition) Enforcement and Administration Act, 2015.
“He was also sentenced to 5 years imprisonment and a N1M fine for facilitating the act, under Section 13(4)(c) of the same Act. Both sentences are to run concurrently.”
