Ibadan Excursion Turns Tragic: Nine Injured in School Vehicle Accident

A school excursion in Ibadan, Oyo State, turned disastrous early Friday morning, 28th February 2025, when a vehicle carrying students from Zenith Group of Schools crashed along Akala Expressway.

The single-vehicle accident left at least three teachers and six pupils with serious injuries.

The incident occurred as the vehicle, transporting over 20 students from the Akeyo, Muslim area of Ibadan, to the Railway Station in Omi for an excursion, experienced brake failure. The vehicle reportedly tumbled and crossed onto the opposite lane of the expressway.

A student who was on board stated that the school owner was also present in the vehicle during the crash.

Responding to the emergency, officers from the Nigeria Police Force and the Oyo State Road Traffic Management Authority (OYRTMA) arrived at the scene.

The injured were promptly transported to a local hospital for medical treatment. The remaining students were taken to the Kuola Divisional Headquarters of the Nigerian Police in Ibadan.
