Councillors Vote to Remove Chairman, Deputy Over Mismanagement in Bauchi

The Assembly of Councillors in Shira Local Government Area, Bauchi State, voted on Monday, 3rd March, to dismiss Chairman Hon. Abdullahi Ibrahim Beli and his Deputy, Hon. Usman Adamu, from their respective positions.

This dismissal was the result of an investigation conducted by a specially formed committee, which found both individuals culpable of serious misconduct, financial irregularities, dereliction of duty, and misuse of their official authority.

A resolution, endorsed by ten councillors, including the Council Leader, Hon. Wali Adamu, and his deputy, formally announced that the offices of both the Chairman and Vice Chairman were to be considered vacant, effective immediately.

“The removal of the Chairman and his deputy stems from the findings presented by the investigative committee, which determined that the Chairman and his deputy were involved in the mismanagement of funds, neglected their assigned responsibilities, betrayed the confidence placed in them, and abused their positions,” the resolution articulated.

When addressing members of the press regarding the situation, the Council Leader revealed that Beli and Adamu had been subjected to increasing scrutiny concerning their handling of the local government’s affairs. He conveyed that, despite numerous warnings, they had consistently failed to fulfill their duties and had forfeited the trust of the residents of Shira, thus rendering their removal unavoidable.
